Now day’s smartphone is very common to everyone. We use a smartphone to make calls, send messages, watch movies, listen to music, play games and the list goes on. All smartphone nowadays runs based on mainly two operating systems, one is Android and another is iOS. Among this two, Android is the OS that is used by most of the peoples. Every major Android update brings a bunch of cool & new features. There are some hidden features too, that don’t get the attention they deserve. Here we will discuss some really useful hidden features of Android that you may not use but you definitely should.

Android Beam

Android Beam is one of the secret android features that many people are not aware of and it is being here since android 4.O ice cream sandwich. The feature lets you share links, video, photos etc from one Android device to another using NFC and Bluetooth. So both the phone should have NFC. Android Beam is certainly handy feature if you looking for sharing a picture, YouTube video and apps from the Play Store, though it’s not recommended for sharing larger files. Turn on this feature on both devices by following some simple steps.

Step 1: Open Settings

Step 2: Tap on ‘more’ under the Wireless and Network section

Step 3: Turn on NFC

Step 4: Enable Android Beam

Step 5: Touch the devices back to other devices which pair both devices through NFC

Step 6: Tap on the display beam whatever on your phone screen

Note that it will only work if receiving device is unlocked and also make sure that receiving device is on the home screen otherwise android beam will get confused to which device you want to share the data.

Screen Pining

It was introduced on Android Lollipop. This is a pretty handy feature that many people may not know about. This comes useful in a situation when your friend ask your phone to make a phone call and after they done with the phone call they start messing with the phone reading chats and checking private photos and it’s very annoying. Screen pining pins a specific app on a phone that means the user only uses a single app and they will not be able to open any other app even the button will become irresponsive. You can enable this feature by providing the following steps.

Step 1: Open Settings

Step 2: Tap on ‘Security’

Step 3: Enable the ‘Screen Pining’

Step 4: Open the app which you want to pin

Step 5: Tap on the recent button

Step 6: Tap on the Pin icon which will appear bottom right corner of the app card

To unpin the app all you need to do is just long press the back button and the app will get unpinned.

Adoptable Storage

Storage is a big issue nowadays. Even the phone that comes with 8GB or 16GB or 32GB internal storage faces insufficient memory problem. You can insert an SD card if your phone supports that but most of the app load into the internal storage and app date will also be stored in the phone memory. Thankfully Android 6.0 introduced the adaptable storage feature which lets you format an external micro SD card as internal storage. To do this just follow the simple steps.

Step 1: Open Settings

Step 2: Tap on Storage & USB

Step 3: Tap on the SD card

Step 4: Click on the three-dot menu button on the top right corner of the screen

Step 5: Tap on setting

Step 6: Tap on the option Format as internal

Step 7: Hit the erase and format button

Note that before you do this keep backup of your important data on the SD card because it will get deleted during the process. But in case if you don’t remove any there will be a prompt during the process and it will ask you to move the data now or later. Also, make sure while performing this process you must insert an SD card into the phone.

User Account

Android allows you to create multiple users on a single device. It only arrives on the smartphone with Android 5.0 lollipop. This is a feature that allows each person to create their own user account and use them for different games and applications. Here are some steps to add new user account on your smartphone.

Step 1: Open Settings

Step 2: Tap on users

Step 3: Tap on add user

Step 4: Tap on set up now when prompted

After which you will be taken to the new user account where you can install an app. You also can switch between the accounts through quick setting notification panel. Note that if a user sets a lock you have to enter pin, pattern or password to access the account.

Android Smart Phone

Smart lock

Another security feature on your smartphone is the smart lock. Smart lock introduced with Android 5.1 lollipop. Smart lock automatically unlocks your phone when your device is on some trusted agent like your Android smartwatch, Chrome book. This keeps handy if you want to unlock on some specific situation, to enable it follow the steps.

Step 1: Open Settings

Step 2: Tap on Security

Step 3: On the security page tap on trusted agent

Step 4: Enable smart lock

Note that before you enable smart lock, you have to add a lock on your smart phone. Smart lock automatically unlock when it is proximity one of the agent. You also set your trusted agent by the following steps below.

Step 1: Open Settings

Step 2: Tap on Security

Step 3: tap on smart lock

Step 4: enter your pin or pattern or password

Cloud Print

If you thought about printing document picture or anything else from your android smart phone then you must have noticed it’s little complicated. But actually it’s very easy thanks to Google cloud print. You can print with your phone even if your PC is off. To do this you have to set things which is explained bellow.

Step 1: Add the printer to cloud print from your MAC or Windows PC

Step 2: Go to Google Chrome

Step 4: Click on three dot top right corner of the Google chrome

Step 5: Tap on the Settings

Step 6: Inside the settings page scroll down and click Show advance settings

Step 7: Click manage which is under the Google Cloud print sub heading

Step 8: Click on the add printer option

Step 9: List of all printers that are connected with the same network are displayed. Select the printer that you want to connect

Step 10: Click add new printer

Once you done this process the printer is connected with your Google account and you will see on Android device as well. Make sure the printer is added with the same Google account that you are using in your smart phone. Note that first your printer is connected with your PC over the same network.
